We are committed to enabling our students, employees and partners to realise their ambitions for a better future for them and their communities.
About the role.
The Vice-Chancellor & CEO provides the vision and leadership required to ensure the future prosperity and success of Bishop Grosseteste University. Building upon existing strengths and areas of specialism, the Vice Chancellor will ensure the University continues to deliver transformative education with social purpose and in line with our mission to support access to higher education.
At a time of considerable challenge within the HE sector, the Vice Chancellor will ensure the future sustainability of BGU in the light of external developments through providing inspiring and effective leadership of our institution.
The Vice Chancellor will champion BGU’s compelling vision and identity and will be accountable for the strategic direction, priorities and targets of the University, in collaboration with the University Council and Executive Group. The person who will lead our institution, following Professor Karen Stanton’s tenure as Interim Vice Chancellor, will be expected to inspire people and teams, be a visible presence, and build effective relationships with staff and students across the University. Our Vice Chancellor will uphold an inclusive culture for both staff and students focused on high performance across all areas of the University’s core activities and business.
The Vice Chancellor is responsible for the overall financial health of the University and will work with the Executive Group to ensure the effective deployment of resources and development of new income streams, in accordance with the University’s financial regulations and in line with institutional strategic objectives.
Academic activities will be overseen in consultation with the Senate, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and positively influence an already exceptional student experience. The Vice Chancellor will ensure these activities align to local, regional and national priorities and opportunities and support exceptional performance in student feedback and TEF, REF and KEF awards.
The Vice-Chancellor will have formal responsibilities associated with the role of Accounting Officer under the regulatory and financial arrangements held by the University with the Office for Students (OfS), Research England and other statutory agencies. They will be responsible to the University Council for ensuring compliance with the OfS regulatory framework, the financial health of the institution, the delivery of institutional strategies and the provision of staffing, services and facilities that meet the needs of the University’s diverse community.
The Vice Chancellor will act as an ambassador for BGU, promoting its profile and brand to a wide external audience and will maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Students’ Union and Diocese of Lincoln.
The Vice Chancellor reports to the University Council and will support the Council to fulfil its various statutory duties and ensure the University’s governance remains compliant with legal, statutory and regulatory frameworks.
Who we are looking for.
We believe in order for our next Vice Chancellor & CEO to be successful, candidates must be able to demonstrate an excellent track record of operating successfully as a strategic leader in the UK education sector and within an organisation of comparable size and complexity. You will bring experience of managing, developing and inspiring talented staff in multi-skilled roles to perform to their highest standard. Through applying your prior experience here at BGU, you will drive a culture of commitment, innovation and engagement aligned to our organisational values.
Knowledge of the Higher Education sector, especially experience of working practices in a smaller HE institution, the development of an academic portfolio that includes partnerships, online and apprenticeship delivery, and understanding of academic research would be advantageous.
